A vampire is a creature resurrected by the enemy of life; hence, it is a creature not redeemed by the sacrifice of divine blood, and must, therefore, constantly consume living blood to sustain its unnatural existence. It is sin dreaming of immortality.

Walter Lazo
Why Witches

I’ve been wanting to read a good story about witches that was not a comedy nor modern for a long time.

When after a serious search I could not find one, I decided to write my own. I wrote a few short stories—never published—just to play with certain ideas. When I felt that I had a pretty good handle on what story I wanted to tell—and in which world I wanted it to take place—I wrote my first novel, Witch of the Defiled. This story, though set in a fictional medieval world, is strongly influenced by Mesopotamian myths. What I like about these myths is that the witch is not so much a practitioner of magic as a magical being. I tried to incorporate this element into my story. The moral of this, at least for writers, is that if there is a story that you want to read and it is not available, write it yourself.
